An 18-year-old identified as Marcus Williams reportedly died after being electrocuted while attempting to break into an ATM using a metal pry bar.
According to reports, surveillance footage showed Williams approaching the machine late at night and trying to force it open. During the attempt, the metal bar allegedly made contact with internal electrical components, resulting in a fatal electric shock.
Following the incident, Williams’ family filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the bank, arguing that it bore responsibility for his death.
However, the court rejected the claim, ruling that the incident occurred as a result of Williams’ own actions while allegedly committing a criminal act. The judge determined that the bank was not liable and dismissed the case.
In addition, the court ordered the family to reimburse the bank for the cost of repairing the damaged ATM.
